Colorado Dog Hikes: Marshall Mesa Trailhead

Marshall Mesa Trail in Boulder is one of my go-to hikes when I need something that’s close and easy. I usually make this into a loop by traveling clockwise on the Marshall Valley trail, turning right onto the Community Ditch trail to head back west and then eventually bearing right onto the Coal Seam trail to complete the loop.

The trail meanders through mixed grass prairie and begins to steepen as you reach the Community Ditch junction. At the top of the mesa you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the Flatirons and surrounding foothills. A sunset hike on this trail is one of my favorite ways to end the day.

Good to note: Dogs are allowed off leash if they have a Voice and Sight tag from the city of Boulder. This trail is also popular with mountain bikers and grazing cattle.
