Cheesman Park
If the mountains are for hiking boots and mud-splattered paws, Cheesman Park is for the more gussied up side of Colorado living. This location is perfect for you if you want a polished, high-end look that feels more like a feature in a fashion magazine than a rugged trail map.
The Neoclassical Pavilion
The neoclassical pavilion at Cheesman is unlike anything else in the area. Its clean white columns and structured stone floors offer a formal, polished backdrop that instantly elevates a portrait. It’s the perfect excuse to get your dog professionally groomed and break out that outfit you’ve been saving for a special occasion. The architecture provides a structured look that makes even a candid moment with your dog feel intentional and high-end. Beyond the marble, Cheesman is ringed by incredible old-growth trees that offer lush pockets of nature right in the middle of the city.
While the pavilion is best for creating images that are clean and sophisticated, the perimeter of the park has huge, sweeping trees that provide a classic park feel along with a bit of shade in the summer and great color in the fall.
As if that’s not enough variety, there’s a seemingly endless expanse of open grassy space that serves as the heart of the park and is the perfect spot for fun action shots.

It’s important to keep in mind that Cheesman is a busy, social park in the heart of the city. At nearly all hours of the day, the central lawn acts as an unofficial dog park. City Park is such a massive, multi-faceted location. It offers the most expansive Denver feel of any other location in the city. It’s the perfect choice if you want a strong sense of place, blending the structured Denver skyline with the Colorado landscape.

For the most iconic view in the city, I love the grand scale of the Denver skyline as it reflects across Ferril Lake. The boathouse here provides a historic, architectural element that adds interest to your portraits. Cottonwoods & Diverse Flower Gardens
Nestled between the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, this park contains landscaping that offers incredible variety. While the vistas at City Park are grand, the environment is distinctly urban and active. Unlike the sprawling, open feel of Cheesman Park, City Park offers a slightly more intimate experience where we navigate between the boat house and multiple flower gardens. This location is suited for dogs of any energy level, as long as they’re at ease and confident in a busy, high-traffic setting.
Wash Park
Washington Park is a Denver favorite known for its manicured beauty and traditional charm. It offers a floral-focused backdrop that evolves beautifully with the seasons.
The Specialized Flower Gardens
This location is home to several unique areas, including the historic Iris Garden and the Mount Vernon Perennial Garden. These spots provide incredible textural depth and vibrant color that elevate a standard pet photo into an image that’s high-end and editorial.
Navigating a Busy Location
Compared to the sprawling lawns of Cheesman, Wash Park cna feel much smaller and more congested because it’s a major draw for Denver joggers and picnickers. To find a sense of calm among the chaos, I like to a specific grove of old-growth trees. These secluded spots offer beautiful light filtering through the trees and allows us to escape the bustle of the main thoroughfares and focus entirely on your dog.
When Is Wash Park the Quietest for Photos?
To ensure a quiet environment, I recommend scheduling your Wash Park dog photography session at sunrise. The park’s boathouse and pavilion are frequently rented for large events and weddings, which can make the areas around the lake crowded and noisy in the evenings. Starting at dawn is the best way to ensure that we have access to the best spots and a quieter environment before the bustle of mid-day activity begins.
Confluence Park
Confluence Park offers a unique intersection of natural river elements and the industrial geometry of the LoHi district. This location is ideal for capturing a blend of the more natural textures of the Colorado landscape with the modern energy of the city.
