Puppy Photos at Mount Falcon

This was the most adorable snowy photo shoot with Bernedoodle puppy, Banjo and his owners at Mt. Falcon! Welcoming a new puppy into the family is such an exciting time and I was incredibly honored when Kiersten reached out to me to photograph their new furbaby. Working with couples who are so head over heels with their four-legged family members is one of the things I love most about being a pet photographer.

A heartfelt thank you to Kiersten for sharing their experience!

Tell me about Banjo. How old is he? What's his personality like? How does he fit into your family?

Banjo is an 11 week old standard Bernedoodle! His mom is a Bernese Mountain Dog and his dad is a Standard Poodle. Banjo is a show off when it comes to all the new tricks he is quickly learning and is a master at naps under the couch (for now). My husband and I recently got married and moved to Colorado! His name is inspired by the music from our wedding and he is the perfect snuggly addition to this new chapter of life!

What do you love most about Banjo?

Oh man, everything!! He is so young, goofy, and curious so we feel like we find a new quirk every day! He has recently learned the bliss of a belly rub. Now, as soon as he wakes up from a nap, he rolls over and throws his paws in the air as his subtle invitation before doing anything else!

Did you have any concerns before your photo shoot with Banjo? How did it go?

Before our shoot, we were nervous that Banjo would be either scared of a new environment or completely overwhelmed and it would make it difficult for Allison to work with. As soon as we got out of the car, Banjo really cranked up the zoomies to a level we had never seen before...squirming, jumping, running...he was difficult to even hold! We walked away saying “Well, if we just got one photo of our spazzy boy, it was totally worth it!” Our puppy behavior concern totally came true but our concern with it impacting our shoot could not be further from what happened! Allison was INCREDIBLE! She had a longer leash for us to use so our wild man could run around freely, knew exactly the right sounds to make and had perfect timing to get Banjo to look at the camera, and was able to instruct us to interact with him so we could get both action shots and calm family photos! Every photo Allison delivered blew us away and you would never be able to tell that he was in full play mode!

Do you have any tips for people thinking about scheduling a photo shoot with their puppy?

We are SO glad we did this! It is so special to have these photos! Allison produced a great balance of solo shots of Banjo that we will look back on one day and talk about how tiny and fluffy he once was, as well as photos of our family that will always remind us of this sweet and special chapter in life. We are just so thrilled with how our photos turned out and I could not recommend scheduling a photo shoot enough!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Being new to the area, Allison helped us so much by recommending a variety of places for our photos! She listened to exactly what we were hoping to achieve and nailed the location! Allison is a great communicator and is so thoughtful when it came to making sure our pup was happy during our photos (mindful of food allergies with treats, recommending a towel to keep him warm, etc.) This was just such a fun day and we have incredible photos that we will cherish forever!
