Session Inspiration: Rocky’s Epic Fall Hike & the Stunning Views That Came with It

 

When I think about what makes an adventure session truly special, it’s not just about the stunning scenery, it’s about the journey and the connection. Take Rocky, here. He’s a striking Husky-Alaskan Malamute mix with the sweetest personality. During the fall, I had the privilege of photographing Rocky and his humans, Alejandro and Nicole, on a beautiful hiking adventure just outside of Boulder.

We set out on a 4-mile round trip hike to capture the gloriousness of fall in the Colorado Rockies. When you think of fall in Colorado for most people yellow aspens come to mind. However, Nicole and Alejandro wanted to prioritize dramatic peaks over fall color. Even though the trail doesn’t have aspens, the mountainsides were alive with the warm golden and russet hues of low-growing bushes that carpet the forest floor. And not to mention a truly out-of-this-world view.

But the magic really happened when Nicole, Alejandro, and Rocky were together. We caught that perfect moment, Rocky radiating shear dog bliss, the mountains towering behind, and the connection between the three of them. These are the moments that make me so grateful to do what I do: capturing love, adventure, and memories that will last a lifetime.

One of the things Nicole shared with me during the hike was how much she loved the relaxed pace of an adventure session. “It’s so nice not to feel rushed,” she said, and I couldn’t agree more. When you choose an adventure session, we have the time to slow down, savor the moments, and truly capture the essence of your dog and the bond you share. There’s no pressure, just being present.

One of the images Nicole specifically requested was just one of Rocky, standing majestically against a backdrop of towering peaks. I absolutely love how these photos came out. Rocky looked totally in his element.
